Home again.
I spent the last week in Hampton, Virginia at the most recent Art & Soul event. I taught three one-day workshops and had such a great time with everyone!! But… I didn’t take a single photo! (Thankfully, …slowly she turned took some of the Junk Mail class… thank you!)
The two pieces shown here were sample paintings for the Creatures on Wood class… the bunnies are sold, but you can purchase the lovebirds here if you like!
It was an extra-long trek home (three planes), and Steve begged me to let him make my flight arrangements from now on. I will, next time!
I wrote several snarky haiku poems while sitting on the runway Houston-bound, but they’re really too awful to share with you (trust me).
Well, okay, just one:
The man next to me
has huge shoulders, hairy arms
encroaching on me.
And here’s the “nicer” one I wrote after I had had a nap.
Guess they’re not so bad
All these people on the plane.
They’re only human.

Hey! My advance copy of “Drawing Lab” was waiting for me when I got home… will show you the next post!
Here are a bunch of drawings from the little sketchbook I’m working in….
“Irritated House-Cat”
“Is This My Best Nest?”
“Betas Have Feelings Too”
“Go Ahead”
“Always, Always, A Fish Out of Water”
“Here I Go”
“Hairy Dogs Think Hairy Thoughts”
“There’s Always Something Just Beneath the Surface”
“Untitled”
The last one is a collaborative effort between Wes, Steve and me. Since it was done on my birthday, they humored me and just drew!!!
This is a little piece that I created last week for a fundraiser for “A Place to Bark.” I’ll post more info on it as soon as I know!
How was your weekend? Yesterday was my birthday (47) and I spent a great day with my boys… we went to the Fremont Market, ate lunch by the water, waited in a bunch of lines, got home and took a little nap… and then Steve and I went to see David Sedaris in downtown Seattle (loved, loved, loved it)!
Yesterday afternoon I started a six-week zoo sketching class with Seattle artist Barbara Fugate. I loved it. She is an extremely talented artist and an articulate and smart teacher.
I’m pretty rusty, but did come out with these three drawings I liked (out of dozens).
We worked very quickly with gesture drawings for much of the class — my favorite way to draw!! (I totally struggled with the longer drawings, but am excited to take on the challenge.)
In other news, this morning I realized (with a start and a jolt) that my next workshops are only two weeks away… yikes!
Hello!
Here are selections from this weekend’s sketchbook activity… I only had a black Sharpie pen here at home (everything else being housed in my office downtown), and it was a pleasure to only worry about “line” and personality of the creatures (without the distraction of color).
Sorry about the blueish cast to the images… clearly I need a “Take-Better-Photos” tutorial, OR (more likely) a Personality Change (since I already know that snapping these hurriedly with my i-phone without lighting isn’t going to make the best photographs, but who can take the TIME????!!!)
What are you up to this week?
