Jill K. Berry’s wonderful book was released a few weeks ago, and I am the second in line for her blog hop book giveaway! Here it is:

Art tips galore, this beautiful (and beautifully written) book is just jam-packed with smart and creative ways to “map” our personal journeys. She writes in her intro:

You can make a map of nearly any journey, place, day or experience, however menial it might seem. Maps can be intimate and personal, or grand and inclusive. They can be a ritual way to journal your day, or a permanent and elaborate illustration of your life’s journey.

A map is simply a visual record of meanderings, both mental and physical. Here are some ideas for things you could consider mapping.

a day with your child

a dog’s life

a fishing river

a garden

a grocery store

a memory

an island you would like to own

a point of view

DOESN’T THIS SOUND FUN??!! This book makes me want to make a map every day….

I even contributed a map to the book:

If you would like a chance to win Personal Geographies: Explorations in Mixed-Media Mapmaking, please leave a comment here with a map prompt idea, in other words, answer this question: What would be a fun thing to “map”?

I’ll pick the winner randomly December 10th. Thanks!

(Note: The publisher can only ship within the U.S. this time. So sorry, international readers!)
(P.S. If you just can’t wait to see if you win, go HERE for info on how to order a signed copy of Jill’s book!)

Happy Thanksgiving to U.S. readers!

Hello!

Well. I seem to have bitten off a little more than I can chew. This has been somewhat true throughout 2011, but especially now!

I’ve mentioned before that I am working on a new book for Quarry Press, publisher of “Drawing Lab.” I agreed to a very quick turnaround, so my deadline is right around the corner, December 1st ! I am quite behind and feeling the need to pull back on everything until it gets done.

So… this blog might languish a bit in the meantime. (I do have some pre-scheduled posts coming up— a giveaway for my friend Jill Berry’s new book, for example — so I won’t be completely gone!)

As you enter into the holiday season, may you be calm and blessed and able to enjoy the season!

(And please wish me luck!!)

PS: I am the guest poster at Alisa Burke’s blog today! Check it out here!

We spent Sunday afternoon at my son’s high school. Above is Wes, cast as George/Stanley/Hamlet, in Seattle Lutheran High School’s production of the one-act comedy, The Actor’s Nightmare.

I was the quintessential proud mom. He was so good!!

Here’s another photo:

Forgive a mom, I just had to share!!

This is Steve. He was doing shots in the studio yesterday for today’s Photo Silly 2 assignment, and I asked to try. We made “Squiggle Drawings” with the camera… so fun!

My mother (Kay) visited from southern California this past weekend to meet little Liam!

And here she is saying goodbye at the airport this morning. Cute!

I did this drawing/collage over a year ago but I’m pretty sure I never showed it here. I didn’t like it at the time, but just coming across it now, I’m wondering what my issue was. It’s okay!

I wanted to let you know that I changed the dates on the Journal and Purse online class to start November 14th… this was due to several requests to move it up so people would have time to make stuff for the holidays.

My mother is coming for a visit tonight and will stay through the weekend. She’s coming to meet this little cutie pie!!

Liam at 6 weeks old.

Happy Friday, everyone!
