I get the most wonderful mail! Yesterday I received the following from Mary, age 12:
Thank you, Mary!
As for the paper dolls, the idea for those came when I was working on other things, perhaps even with the cereal boxes themselves, just messing around. Perhaps I had seen some paper dolls at the store that day. In any case, I had been working on a series of girls with their animals on wood, and it was easy to transfer them to the cereal boxes!
Here’s a link to the tutorial, featured on etsy.com last year!

Absolutely wonderful! Pure, pure magic ~ my girlfriend and I talk every few days, send emails to each other but still write cards or postcards… just because we love getting ‘real’ mail. And for every letter you don’t get there are probably hundreds of children and adults feeling the same as this wee one… know that and know how much you are appreciated by us all ~

Gorgeous! Isn’t that pink ink wonderful? See how you inspire so many, Carla? (you got me drawing after years too and now I’m on an illustration course)

Hi. I’m Mary’s very proud mama. You have no idea how happy you have made my little girl. She is so very excited to have a real reply from you and then when she saw your blog post today…well, tears and squeals.
She has done an example of each page of your book and speaks of it often. She’s quite talented, if I may say so myself.
Thank you, Carla for making my little girl’s week! We will be hearing of this for a long, long time.

Mary summed up my feelings exactly. I picked up you book on my volunteer shift at my library and love it! As a fitness trainer I encourage clients to “play” too.
