Another Seattle Visit Coming Right Up!

28 Wednesday May 2008

We’re starting to get into a summer routine… Wes has been out of school for over a week and Christer is home from college, biding his time until he gets married June 22nd… All is well.

We have a quick trip scheduled next week to Seattle to meet with job prospects (Steve). This will be Wes’s first visit! In addition, I will be helping a friend at her tent at the Mukilteo Artist’s Garage Sale on Saturday, June 7th. (This is such a great idea!! I’ll be bringing some stuff to sell as well… sketches, “seconds,” etc.

Paper Boat Fleet

21 Wednesday May 2008

Wes spent all day last Saturday making a fleet of paper boats:

On Sunday we walked down to the river with one of them

tied to a string so we wouldn’t litter.

The string fell off the soggy boat on our way home. Then Wes had me tie the string to his wrist and I “walked” him home. I thought he was trying to be a kite, but found out that he was acting like a dog instead (stopping, starting, pulling at the leash, getting tangled, etc.). We got a few smiles from drivers passing by!

Wes’s Boats…. No, Birds!

I really wanted to post some pics from the weekend of Wes and his boats, but I can’t find my camera! Instead, here’s a mixed media bird that I did last week for a potential Artfest or Art & Soul class.

I opened an old journal this morning from 1999… Wes was four years old and I had just quit my job to stay home with him. He was the funniest little guy! I’ve shared some of these before, but some are new… “Wesisms”:

  • “Why do people have so many junk?”
  • While eating breakfast with Steve: “We have to eat and eat until the food is all the way up to our neck. Now, it’s at our chest.”
  • “Mom, I’m going to teach you everything I know.”
  • “It’s not a rotten egg. I trust you, mom. It’s not a rotten egg.”
  • “Dad, why do you make me do all the work?
  • “Mom, my eyes are making me sleep.”
  • At the dinner table: I’m not a mushroom guy.”
  • “God can hear our hearts. He’s like a doctor.”

And finally, a little song he sang (and I happened to write down, thank God):

I am a turkey
Please don’t kill me
I don’t want to be eaten
for Thanksgiving

You can kill my babies…

Wendy Murray and I have been friends for about 12 years… we met at Christianity Today magazine where I was a designer and she was an editor. She is a full-time author and  her books are funny, smart and REAL.

She has a new book, which I can’t wait to read: A Mended and Broken Heart, the Life and Love of Francis of Assisi (Basic Books – Perseus Books Group).

And she just started a new blog! Check it out!!

Per Jamie’s suggestion, I’ve decided to start visualizing SLUGS in order to speed up the moving process (we want to move to Seattle this summer). Things are progressing kind of slowly… maybe you can help us out? Take just a moment right now and visualize the following:

Think of slugs. Hundreds of slugs, surrounding the Sonheims (apparently there are slugs in Seattle). These are not the gross kind. They are the happy kind. They are doing a little dance to welcome the Sonheims to Seattle. Soon. Slugs…Sonheim…Seattle…Soon… SSSS.

Download the above image and place it by your computer. Visualize SSSS until you get word through this blog that we are indeed moving. Thank you.

  • I did a slew of watercolor snails the other day… here’s one of them!
  • Christer came home last night from college and will be here for his last six weeks BEFORE HE GETS MARRIED! (OMG.)
  • Steve is in Seattle and Portland this week. We would love to move this summer if opportunities line up a little more firmly…
  • Happy Mother’s Day, Moms!
