I used a purple color Sharpie and a stack of white cover stock. I was lying on my stomach on the bed… a soft surface that forced a looser product. I think I drew about 30 cats total, and this was the only one I loved. Sometimes it takes awhile. I tried to keep my lines simple and expressive. If I got stuck, I would switch to my left (wrong) hand. Some of the good ones were with my left hand…. Here is one of the full pages of sketched cats:

Way to cute Carla! I love first one on fair right too! The one looking forward! Love his face! What a fun assignment!
Yes! That one was my second favorite. I’ve colored it in Photoshop and put it up as well.
Oh how wonderful! I love drawing with my left hand and I’m going to try this Carla. Your cats are so great and they look just positively innocent, like they would never cause any mischief.
You haven’t stopped teaching me ever since I was in your class over a year ago! Thanks for the reminder to draw, draw, DRAW!

How cute are those! I love the one at the bottom of the post. I actually have a cat that looks something like that! 🙂
I love your cats and I can’t wait till Artfest 2009, where I have signed up for your critter class. You inspire me!
What an ever so cool assignment. I think I like all of yours. the one that kind of especially catches my eye is on bottom left. I tried drawing with my non-dominant hand recently. I think I’ll post it and put a link here.
Thanks for all these great assignments. I hope I can convince myself to to take time to give them a try.

Excellent work saw your book on amazon- I used to live in NY USA now back to Delhi India, have been fascinated with drawing and using drawing to make instruction especially accounting subjects easy to understand for students, even though I am an accounting professional, would love to learn how to sketch from you. regards

I really find these cats charming. Love the soft loose quality of them, they just exude the “cat” character to me. I will be trying this for sure.
