Hello!
The books arrived this morning, so any of you who ordered Drawing Lab directly from me will be getting your book and drawing soon (I will send them out by the end of the week)!
AND… I started a flickr group where you can upload drawings and artwork that may have been DL-inspired (directly or indirectly)… I look forward to seeing your work!!
I got mine from Amazon this weekend! Woohoo! That officially makes me the coolest kid on the block. When I get it autographed I will be the coolest kid in West Seattle!
Mine arrived today. I saw a friend’s copy on Friday. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the book!!!! 😀
Hi, Carla! This is Sunny from Artfest. I just wanted to let you know I just got my book this afternoon and I haven’t been this excited about a book in a looooong time!! I can’t wait to really get into it. It looks just perfect and as I flipped through it, I almost screeched to a halt (I was cleaning my house so I would have LOVED to stop!!!) but I forced myself to put it away until I can completely concentrate on it. Congratulations!!! I hope we’ll be hall-buddies again at Artfest 2011, I had such a great time hanging out with you guys!
Love, Sunny
Thank you everyone! I appreciate your comments so much. And those who have emailed me privately, THANK YOU, too!!!
Carla,
Your wonderful book came from Amazon this past Saturday, but I didn’t get it ’til Sunday morning, since the mailman always puts my things in the wrong mailbox.
I was on my way out to the dog park with six dogs (I’m a full-time dog-sitter) when my neighbor brought the package over.
I was so excited; I couldn’t wait to look at it. But all the dogs had to be gotten out of the car and safely into the ddog park first. Then, of course, I had no chance to sit and read, I was too busy throwing tennis balls, breaking up skirmishes, picking up poops, etc..
After an hour at the park, I finally got everybody back in the car, and drove off home. As I drove out of the parking lot and onto the road, I felt a sickening thud. No, it wasn’t a dog, thank goodness, but it was my BOOK, which I’d left on the top of the car! Now, this is a very busy road, and I had six dogs in the car. I pulled over as soon as I could, and saw my precious book a hundred yards back in the middle of the road. Cars were coming in both directions. I waved my arms wildly, and watched in horror as a fast moving car RAN OVER MY BOOK! Dashing back to the place the book now lay, taking my life into my hands., I darted out into the road and retrieved my book. Miracle of miracles, it was unharmed!
Back I raced to the car full of barking dogs, the book cradled in my arms.
Back home, I got everybody unloaded, water bows all around, then, finally….quiet time, MY TIME. While everybody napped, I read the WHOLE book from start to finish! Now I’m starting the labs, not in order, of course, but randomly, and having a wonderful time. I’m hoping to go up to Bellvue CO in November to take your workshops, if I can find someone to take all the dogs.
I just thought you’d like to know that your book can survive being run over by a car.

Too funny, Peggy!
Woohoo! I can’t wait. I’m in need of an arty kick in the pants, Carla. How is it that artists still have laundry and errands to do and kids who need attention? Not fair.
But you’d be proud. I spent mucho $$ on good watercolor paper and I’m loving using it, albeit sporadically. I even let my boys (age 4 and 6) use a sheet each for their great grandma’s 97th birthday paintings. The paper didn’t buckle and the colors were so vibrant. Just one sheet each, though. Let’s not get crazy. (If you want to see their paintings, I had a post on my blog a week or so ago with photos of them.)
I didn’t keep up with silly class as I was recovering from surgery and more incapacitated than I thought, but I printed out the sheets so I’m slowly doing them. Made a page of one line dogs that came out well and a few garabaldi fish against a wallpapery background. Can’t wait to get the book. Hope your summer is going well so far.

Squeal! Can’t wait til mine arrives!
I received mine via Amazon as well. So fun!!
My book was awaiting me when I got home from work last night! It’s fabulous, Carla, and I love the drawing you sent with it! I’m a happy girl! Thank you so much!
Excellent, congratulations!
I just got your new book in and I can’t wait to dive in and try
freeing up my drawing. Your mythical creatures always make me
smile so I look forward to seeing what comes from the end of my
hand…
Congratulations Carla……..i’m so happy for you. I’m listening to an interviewe with you on blogtalk radio right now!

Hi Carla, I love this book! I got it a short while ago and I have just now posted on Flickr the few pages I was able to squeeze in when I got the book (couldn’t resist trying a few of them!). I should be able to do more of the labs now. Just wanted to tell you how wonderful I think this book is and how much I’m enjoying working through it. Of course I told myself I could be methodical and do the labs in order, but now I just want to jump around and do all the ones that appeal to me right away. Whatever gets me to draw is good I guess 🙂 Thanks so much! Looking forward to signing up for the Silly class later this year.
Best,
Deb D.
