Hello! Silly 3 is over and it was a great class… thank you to all the Silly 3’s!!
Silly 4 starts May 4th and registration is now open! Click here for more info!
Hello!
Please join me for the third installment of my online class:
The Art of Silliness
(30 Worksheets/30 Days/25 Bucks!)
January 5 – February 3, 2010
(This class is open to ANYONE, whether or not they took the first classes — because “silly” has no prerequisite!)
Here’s the scoop:
• Each day I will create an Activity Sheet just for you. Worksheets may include one (or more) of the following: drawing exercises (can’t draw? YES YOU CAN!), writing prompts, poems to illustrate, vocabulary words, drawing games, collage prompts, puzzles… (just to name a few). FUN!
• NEW: Silly 3 has an Artist-in-Residence! Commercial photographer Steve Sonheim (A.K.A. Husband) will provide four special photography assignments, and will be available for questions and feedback throughout the month!
• Here is a SAMPLE of the first worksheet from the first “The Art of Silliness” (Spring 2010):
(Non-threatening and easy!)
• The worksheets will be created as the month goes on… in other words, this course is not preplanned down to the finest detail. (We are spontaneous over here at Silly Headquarters, Inc. Company.)
• Each day you will receive an email from me with a url link to the new pdf worksheet, which you can download, print, and complete!
• The daily email might also include stories, jokes, and all the Silly News.
• 30 days, 30 handouts. At the end of the class you can bind them all together for your very own Silliness “3″ Workbook!
• Our goal: to get you to just PLAY, just 10 minutes a day, with pen and paper, thoughts and images. (You will be surprised how a shot of silliness like this will positively inform the other goings-on in your day, including your regular artwork.)
• Every handout will have an “Extra Credit” section, in case you want to spend MORE than 10 minutes that day creating like a kid.
• Speaking of kids… this is a perfect class to do together with your children!! Each household can download as many sheets as they like.
• TEACHERS!!!! If you do this online class, you are welcome to photocopy the worksheets for use in your classrooms.
• A blog dedicated to the class will be created and administered throughout the month and will be the place for you to post comments, questions, and/or links to your finished Activity Pages.
• A “Silly the Third″ flickr site will be created so you can (optionally) share your worksheets, drawings, artwork, and enjoy and learn from the artwork of others. (However, if you are shy about posting your art, I will be available to you the entire month to look at your work via email.)
• Prizes? Of course!!
• The class starts January 5th and runs through February 3, 2011… a perfect way to start the new year!
• The class material will be up and available for download until April 15th, 2011, if for some reason you need to miss a day (or a couple of weeks).
• Here’s what people are saying about the Silly Series so far:
About Silly 1:
“I want to say that your online Art of Silliness drawing workshop
caused something of a paradigm shift in my perspective on drawing, more specifically, my ability to draw. I draw all the time now. No big deal, no worries, no “I’m not having fun this is too ugly”, none of that. I am now and forever more a person who draws. Because of you.”
— Jennifer W.
About Silly 2:
“The Best X 3:
Best drawing class I’ve taken on-line or off-line.
Best teacher who made drawing fun.
Best time spent that brought a smile to my face and joy to my heart
— Judith W.
And to see more, go here!
• I promise to make it fun. (Do you want to join me?)
Cost: $25
January 5 – February 3, 2010
(though you will be able to access the pdfs until April 15th)
And please help me spread the word. THANK YOU!
Carla Sonheim, A.K.A. The Silly Queen
P.S. A note to OLD-TIMERS
Why take Silly again? Well, one reason is…
Silliness is Like a Bowl of Strawberries
Let me explain. You’ve tasted strawberries before, but that doesn’t mean you would say “no” to another bowl, right? Even though the experience will be similar, it deserves to be repeated because it “tastes good!”
Yes, it will be similar, but different. Why? Because now you are several months older. The weather has changed, and your energy level has increased (or decreased). That distracting situation with your neighbor is now resolved. In short, you are a COMPLETELY different person now and will thus respond differently to Silly 3!
(And though there will be some repeat exercises — such as Fleep lists and blind contours — the subject matter will be all new. The Squeen never just recycles material “copy and paste” style. That is my Silly Promise.)
Yipeeeee! Can’t wait to start.
Just bought this as a birthday present to myself. Yeah!
Wow! That is the cutest thing EVER!!
I gave Santa the link, lets see if he gets the hint!
I’m in – and looking forward to being silly!
CAn’t wait, Carla… plan to join! Your book is recommended reading for EVERY TEACHER that I encounter…. not just art teachers… all of them!!! We need more silliness in this world. For sure.

Hi Carla! I just signed up today, but I didn’t get a confirmation email. Is it automatic, or should I expect it to come later today or tomorrow? I checked my spam filter and there’s no email from you there. Gracias! I can’t wait to be silly!
Hi… you should have received something by now… I will email you from another address. Sit tight!
Thanks! Yay, I can’t wait to catch up with everyone!
Hi Carla – I’m signing up late, but better late than never. Can’t wait to get started!
Carla, I’m so enjoying my silly worksheets. However, I’ve emailed you twice to let you know that my sister has not yet received notice of her gift, and I’ve not received a cc confirmation. Payment went through OK and I replied to give you my sister’s email address. There’s nothing in my Spam. Could you check into it for me please? Thanks so much!
Margie! I promise, I have never received your emails! I just emailed you… please let me know if you received my email. So sorry about this!
I received your email this morning and responded to it, sending copies to the “heart” email and the usual one. I hope you have received at least one of them. Did you really send this last message at 3am?
I have emailed you once to let you know tht I have not received my any notices about the workshop. I paid on 12/27… let me know if I have a problem on my end. THanks!
Hi Jenny… Thank you for checking in… I didn’t receive your email so I’m sorry I didn’t get back to you! I just emailed you from another account and hopefully you have everything now. Let me know!
Hi Jenny (again)… your email bounced back to me, not sure why! You’re on my list as having been receiving everything… check your spam folder, be sure to make carla@carlasonheim.com a “known sender,” and let me know if you have a different email addy I can try. Thanks!
Just to let you know, in case you didn’t get my last email, that all is well, and my sister is receiving her Gift of Silly. Thanks!
I just signed up for the class and can’t wait to start! It is my first time visiting here. 🙂
Pingback: Monday #20: Super Silly Us | Dar Hosta's Monday Blog
Wow! I just got a scholarship to do this (thanks Dar! Thanks Carla!). I’ve been having a lot of fun with your book for the last couple of months, Carla and am excited to start the new year with silliness!
I signed up! Get the silly underway!!
I can’t wait to get started on the silly! Thanks to Dar for mentioning you in her blog, and thank you Carla for putting together something so cool. Yay!
Hi Carla!
I signed up yesterday and paid through PayPal (got a confirmation from them, too), but didn’t receive anything from you. I checked my spam folder and everything! Please help, I need to get my silly on! Thanks, 🙂
Hi Barbara!
So sorry… there has been an unusual number of “dropped” emails from Paypal this session… I ALWAYS log everyone in right away if I know about it (sheesh).
I truly apologize for the delay in getting you going… thank you so much again for signing up! (And for your blog comment yesterday… I should have caught the mistake then… so sorry!)
Carla
I’m very interested in joining this atelier silly 3, but since the Cours began at 7 days ago, I wish to do next time. When will be your next session?
Thank you
I just signed up! I’m so excited! I paid with Paypal–hope it goes through okay!
Thanks to my virtual “friend” and inspiration, Dar Hosta, I am VERY excited to join the group of the sillies!
This class is amazing therapy and much much more affordable! I don’t want it to end. I signed up late and just doubled and tripled up on the worksheets. So. Much. Fun.
this is just the sort of tomfoolery I need during this bleak boring and cold canadian winter! I know my kids will enjoy it too. (They’re currently lining toothpicks up end to end, all the way down our hallway.) I’m sure that to them it’s the first step to a glorious plan, but really, can we say BORED?)
I’m so late…but i’m signing up. I hope I can get the pages that have already gone out!
Corra… yes, you’ll have access to everything we’ve done so far!! (And don’t worry about being “late,” a lot have people have joined up in the last few days, so you’re in good company!)
yippee! I’m super late but excited to join up! Bring on the silly!
I signed up but haven’t received anything yet?!
Hi Camille! You are all logged in and should have been receiving emails. Be sure to check your spam folder, and make sure carla@carlasonheim.com is a “known sender.” In the meantime, I sent the info from a different email address just now, so hopefully you’ll get that.
Thank you for signing up!
Just signed up…late. But better late than never, and I am so looking forward to this. Just bought your fab motivating book too which led me here.
Looking forward to meeting everyone and DRAWING AND PLAYING AND BEING SILLY!!!

I love this and want to do this! – someday! – I can’t be silly right now because I’m doing work for the Department of Public Education until May and it’s not so silly. I’d love to have this information sent to me via email after May 2015!! Then I can devote more time to silliness and will likely need it! Ima share this with some friends now!!
