Hello!
Students who took my Silly 3 course a few months ago were introduced to some photo assignments from my husband, Steve Sonheim. We had so much fun coming up with those assignments we decided to put together a whole class!
Photo Silly
with Steve Sonheim
June 13 – June 26, 2011
This class is about looking at the world a little differently through your digital camera, and bringing more photography into your art, and more art into your photography!
Here’s the scoop:
• Every day for two weeks (14 days), you will get a short, silly, and fun project to go and do with your camera.
• You will also spend a little time each session gaining a better understanding of some of the more technical concepts of digital photography. (And some computer stuff, too!)
• A “Photo Silly″ flickr site will be created so you can (optionally) share your photographs and get feedback from your fellow students, as well as enjoy and learn from others in the class. (However, if you are shy about posting your photos, Steve will be available to you to look at your work via email.)
• The class material will be up and available until August 15th, 2011, if for some reason you need to miss a day.
• Requirements: Any digital camera that you can download images to a computer and a basic photo-editing program. (Steve suggests either a trial [free] version of Photoshop Elements or Picasa by Google, also free. These are both easy to use and he will be giving instructions for both as we go along.)
• This class for anyone with a digital camera, a computer, and a willingness to take some chances.
Cost: $35

Is a point and shoot digital okay? Or is this a good excuse for me to upgrade?
carlasonheim said:
Robin,
Steve says your point-and-shoot will work fine!

Thanks, Carla (and Steve!)

I’m interested in this class, but I’ll be traveling during this time. I hope Steve offers it again!

What a great idea. So many times, my best images have started out as something “silly”

As for editing programs, GIMP is also another alternative. It’s free.

Hey Carla…. I’m thinking of jumping into this class. Is Steve going to cover the basics of F stops and stuff?? I’m hoping he will do some instructionals, like SLRs for dummies… I guess some will be using point and shoot, though. Just wondering.

Hi Dar, thanks for your interest!
Yes, I will cover the basics of exposure – in principle and in practice- and will build in some SLR instruction as well.
I will post some more details of the class as we get closer…

Hi Carla… I would love to take this class, but I work 10 hour days during the week. Is this something I would be able to do in the little bit of daylight I have left each day?

Hi there. I am thinking of gifting Photo Silly for a 12 year old female who recently received a point and shoot (her first camera). Do you think this class would be appropriate? Thanks!
carlasonheim said:
Yes! I think the class would be just perfect for a teenager… designed to be fun and informative, both!

Hi there, i read your blog from time to time and i own a
similar one and i was just curious if you get a lot of spam remarks?
If so how do you prevent it, any plugin or anything you can advise?
I get so much lately it’s driving me mad so any assistance is very much appreciated.
