Friday night: Went to the Seattle Lutheran High School production of “Don’t Drink the Water” by Woody Allen. Funny! (Wes played the priest, who also happens to be an amateur magician.)

Saturday: Track Meet. Then, played tennis with my daughter-in-law for the first time in ten (?) years? I loved it. But… I’m SO sore today!

Sunday: Had a live “Flower Power” work session at the studio. Lots of fun and lots of great art by the women who came… yay! We worked on paintings with collage as our beginnings; the piece above was one of the demo pieces.

And I have a busy week ahead. Busy = Good. I am grateful!

Hello! I spent six hours yesterday at a life drawing session with two fabulous models (session organized by the wonderful Barbara Fugate). I haven’t drawn from the figure in very long time (too long), and I was so rusty! Most everything I did was pretty bad; however, I did like these three little gestures.

I’m really too busy to spend an entire day drawing nude models.

But it’s just as true that I’m really too busy NOT to spend an entire day drawing nude models.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Hello!

Gosh, time just passes, doesn’t it! I’m still working on the final tweaks, but my animals book is available for pre-order at amazon.com and bn.com. “Drawing and Painting Imaginary Animals” is due to come out October 1, 2012.

It will be the same size as Drawing Lab, but in a different format. The first half of the book focuses on drawing and “play,” and the second half focuses on mixed media animal-related paintings and projects. I had a lot of fun putting it together, and hope you will like it, too!

More scanned flower experiments from last week.

These days I’m not drawing or painting as much or, if I am, it’s for the Flowers class….

There’s always so much to do, isn’t there?

I hope you are enjoying your day!

Yesterday I had a visitor from Wisconsin, 9-year-old Stella!

I showed her and her family around the studio and then we sat down and drew. She whipped out these two beautiful drawings in about 3 minutes flat!

And she brought me this cool drawing she had done at home…

… which, held up to the light, looked like this…

… because on the back, she had drawn this:

BRILLIANT!!

Thank you, Stella, for coming by!!

Hello everyone!

It’s such a beautiful spring day here in Seattle, it’s hard to be inside.

The above image is a mix of watercolor, gesso, colored pencils, markers and beets. (I had it at home while Steve was cooking a few weeks ago… he cut me little slices and and I used them like stamps… they made the most beautiful pink color, and seem to be permanent. or “permanent enough” for me!)

Aren’t magnolia trees beautiful?

Flowers are the best.
