inHere is the line-up of my summer online classes (one week each):
Early Summer Repeat Sessions ($35 each, $65 for two, or $85 for all three classes)
June 11-15, 2012 ⢠Junk Mail Artist’s Book (Repeat Session)
June 25-29 ⢠Imaginary Creatures (Repeat Session)
July 9-13, 2012 ⢠Faces 101 (Repeat Session)
2013 Dog Days of Summer Camp (class details forthcoming July 1):
August 6-10, 2012 ⢠Watercolor Transfer Paintings (New!)
August 13-17, 2012 ⢠Cereal Box Paper Dolls (New!)
****************
And, since this one is just around the corner (begins June 11th):
This is a mixed-media-junkieâs dream project! Junk mail combined with gesso, watercolor, a little swirly technique here, some packing tape there, creates beautiful and complicated textures that you can use as backgrounds for any mixed media projects you currently have going. In this class weâll use our pages to create an irregularly shaped book. Then, weâll DRAW! You will begin a drawing on one spread, with the goal of having each image connect to and work with the images from other spreads. The drawing exercises throughout the week will build up to you being able to see more creatively and embrace the âpuzzleâ nature of this beautiful artistâs book.
Take this class if you love textures, layers, and everything mixed media. This one is just FUN!
Note: This is a repeat of the class held in August 2011 (by popular demand!).

Hereâs the scoop for this class:
⢠Be ready for a week jam-packed with creativity! (Update: If you do all the assignments each day, I estimate it will take about 1 â 1.5 hours each day.)
â˘Â Each day youâll wake up to a morning peptalk email with links to your daily schedule, warm-up PDF worksheet, drawing assignment, demonstration videos and painting assignment. (Five days; five warm-up worksheets; five drawing assignments; nine videos; five painting assignments.)
⢠A password-protected blog dedicated to each class will serve as our clubhouse and will be our meeting place for all of the above, as well as special goodie bag materials and other surprises (including bug spray).
⢠A flickr group will be created for each session so you can (optionally) share your worksheets, drawings, paintings, and enjoy and learn from the artwork of others. (However, if you are shy about posting your art, I am always available to look at your work via email.)
⢠A perfect activity to do with your kids.
⢠The class materials will be up and available for download until âforever,â if for some reason you need to miss a day (or the week).

â˘Â Upon registration, you will receive an email within 48 hours confirming your sign-up. On the Wednesday before your session begins, you will receive a âtestâ email to make sure you can receive/view everything.
⢠What you will need: You will be able to read acrobat pdf files and view videos.
⢠Class fee is good for participants living in a single household.

Last night I had a rare night alone and “un-deadlined,” and so spent six hours cleaning my studio and messing around with a Zen Board thing that I got at a garage sale last week.
I had so much fun!
Of course, the idea with these boards is “impermanence” and  living in the present and the past and future aren’t supposed to come into play, but with me photographing each step I pretty much missed the point. đ
But it was fun nevertheless!

Last week I received an email from my friend and teaching colleague Orly Avineri asking if I would be willing to do a blog post about her new book, which is being released today! Of course I said “yes!” I took a class from her a few years ago and just love her intelligent and deep approach to art and journaling. (Not to mention her art is just fantastic!)
The book is called “One Artist Journal” and is a documentation of Orly’s wonderful blog… and it has an introduction by Teesha Moore!
Orly is giving away a copy of the book at her blog, so hop on over and leave a comment for a chance to win!
If you just can’t wait (I couldn’t), you can purchase one through:
1. Orly’s eStore.
2. Amazon.
3. At her workshops in Southern California
And check out these other blogs who are introducing her book today as well!

I think I’m going to make it.
The two books are almost finished and are due in stores October and November, respectively.
It’s been such a long road. I knew it would be hard to try to basically do two books simultaneously, and it was! But when opportunity knocked, I needed to go for it. Â (And on this side of things I’m so glad I did!)
But many things have fallen into disarray these past 10 months. My house and my studio are both complete wrecks. I’m behind on all of my “other” projects, this blog has been sorely neglected, and I didn’t even get a May newsletter done!
But I’m rounding third base right now.
And it feels GREAT!

Messing around last week with gouache and other stuff on paper became disastrous mid-way through, so I took some sandpaper to it. I’m liking the result… kind of aged. Here’s a detail (click to enlarge):
Definitely something I will play with more.
I’m on deadline again this week (book), and so will most likely hunker down now until it’s done. Have a great week!
