Hello!
The past few weeks I’ve been working on things that have pretty much kept me away from drawing. So when Steve needed to go to the zoo last week for a photo assignment, I gladly went with him!
I didn’t bring much; just a stack of white card stock and a black Sharpie pen. We were only there an hour, dashing from one exhibit to the next, so I focused on doing quick, mostly blind, one-liners.
I went through a lot of paper. Here are the five drawings I liked the best, out of at least 100 small drawings:
Not really very much “usable,”… but it was so fun anyway. And check out this beautiful shot by Steve!
Useable, schmusable. It’s all practice and potential ideas for something cool down the line. And Steve – WOW! Gorgeous! — Serena
You had fun!! That’s so good:) Doesn’t always need to be usable-that’s what I have to say. Whatever you do, I’m inspired to have some creative fun almost every day.
Awesome photo, Steve. I’ll look at it again and again.
Thanks to both of you for adding a smile to my day.
Maybe usable is the wrong word. Perhaps it would be better to say beneficial, because the act of drawing is sometimes more important than the final product. : )
Dear Carla, I love your one liner drawings, especially the giraffe. You do great art. I’m waiting to be able to take your flower class next year. Cheers! Deborah Smith

congrats on the wonderful interview.
love your zoo line art
and whoa, awesome photographic portrait!
Love your blind one liners! Scrolling down and looking at them, left me with a smile on my face. Love the flamingo and the giraffe. AND your husband’s photo is so beautiful. So much talent.
You did good. I can tell what each animal and bird is like. The photo is great. I was a photographer in my last life and did a lot of classes at Winona International School in Chicago and your husbands photo is as good as I have seen. alena
Are you kidding? Those are totally usable, especially the second one and the giraffe. I love them. And Steve’s pic is amazing… a lot of talent in that family!
I totally agree with Lucie. They are all useable — lovely to look at!!! And I do love the photograph. Beautiful.
Not usable? I love the flamingo! Very elegant. And Steve’s photography is just amazing.
WOW! Awesome photo! Love your one liners.
WOW. What a shot. Love it. He must get his talent from you.
Carla, you never disappoint. Your art relates to people. I absolutely love it.
You two are art superstars in my sky.
All beautiful and fun. Awesome creations by a superb team.
I love your wonky drawings and the photo by steve is awesome — love the way he captures the expression and soulful eyes —
absolutely love the essense of flamingo.i need to go the aviary.
Thank you for sharing! It’s good to see an alternative to a complex drawing. I have a lot of trips with the family that are on the fly and its tempting to think that because I don’t have time to sit and draw that I shouldn’t try at all. I love the simplicity of the materials.
and the photo is amazing
