I’ve been in the mood to work fast lately, and have painted several acrylic portraits like these the last few days. These are the two that were most successful.
This one is based loosely on my two grandsons, Liam and Ethan (almost 3 years and 1.5 years, respectively).
Details:
These really don’t look like Liam and Ethan, but I like them anyway because they capture something of the personalities of each.

I’m working tonight on getting the next online class up and available for registration, as well as a preview of the online class calendar for the fall. Another busy season!
I hope you are well today.
Wow! These are amazing! I love that they are not perfect! 🙂
Thanks, Roben-Marie!
I am enjoying the looseness and the emotive colors in the faces. The tilt of the head upwards is delightful towards the other brother. Love the new direction that working fast with paint has taken you!
I love these! Inspires me to go to my messy art room and try my hand at fast-loose portraits.
Carla, I love the loose approach you have taken with these! I find trying to be loose with a painting is more difficult than I anticipate. Wonderful paintings!
I have been painting loose water color portraits after taking the bliss workshop taught by juliette crane love these havent tried acrylic looking forward to your fall schedule joanne summy
They are perfect! I can see your hand in them. Love them!
Ps. Carla, can’t you teach us this technique? I want to learn it!
these are beautiful.
Oh Carla! These are wonderful!
WonderfulWonderfulWonderful !!!! love these portraits of your grandchildren : ) this “fast & loose” painting is absolutely inspiring – and because I can’t paint/draw a portrait if my life depended on it – I could try ??? hmmmm, a anything but a face ?? sounds like we need some instruction here – wink wink – hint hint hahaha : )
Thanks for your always inspiring sharing Carla : )
Ohhhhh, Happy September !!!
Blessings, Sandra in AZ : )
Love these! I find being loose VERY difficult!
Thanks! And… you have to pretend that nothing matters, and paint from that space. The hard part is getting into that space!
You are wonderful and an inspiration to me
these are adorable! i love how you’ve captured the innocence of their faces. so sweet!
I love your work, and these portraits are great! Thank you for sharing.sometimes the smallest bit of fun makes a big difference in your day. I helped my daughter cover her notebooks with some pretty paper and I had a great time!
Love how you captured your grand children’s innocence in these portraits! Do hope you will teach this in a class! 🙂
Unique is the word that comes to my mind when I look at your work. It’s intriguing and inspiring at the same time.
Yes! Yes! Thank you. Just what I needed. Sometimes I need to be reminded of what I like best: expression!
