I won a bunch of decorative tape; so can you!
Hello everybody!
I’ve been a member of Etsy.com since 2005. At the time I had decided to focus on getting my art out into the world, and stumbled upon etsy one day. Etsy was pretty new, and it seemed a big risk to spend $80 on a camera to use to photograph my artwork. Little did I know how my art life would be wonderfully shaped by Etsy!
I was one of the first 4,000 artists to join Etsy (#3907!), and in those days it was easier to be found than it is now; I was lucky that my store became one of the Top 100 Sellers! (Click HERE to see my avatar in the #38 spot in September 2006.) And my editor for my most recent book, The Art of Silliness, found me on Etsy, too… I love Etsy!
Tomorrow is the Etsy Craft Party, “a global celebration of meeting and making,” which will be held around the world on Saturday from 12-6pm. (Seattle’s event will be held at 1430 Western Ave., right in front of Ugly Baby and La Rue [@uglybabyandlaru]. It’s a street party for artists! There will be swag bags and hourly raffle prizes… I donated classes from Carla Sonheim Presents to the raffle, so if you are in Seattle, come by for a chance to win a free online class!)
When I registered for the party, I was entered in a contest to win a box of decorative tape from 3M/@scotchproducts (a sponsor of the event)… and I WON!
(See? Etsy has been so good to me.)
So I’m sharing my tape-wealth. 😀
If you would like to win a stack of tape, comment here with how you might use it, and I’ll chose 6 random winners (International entries welcome). Winners will be chosen around 1pm PST Tuesday, June 9th.
And the random.org winners are:
#17 Teri Lynn
#58 Paige
#29 Patti Sandham
#68 Carina
#31 annacarin-sol
#52 2bcrafty
Thanks, everyone!

Wow, beautiful tapes. If I win, I’m ganna use them to do something like this: https://goo.gl/shrmPI. I’ve been creating art with washi tapes and won a little prize last year in a small picture book contest (a page of it here: https://goo.gl/RbYfUO) with creating art by this. I feel there is a huge possibility to work with washi tapes and I love it. =)

I love it and use it in my own art work in paintings ( watercolor and acrylic) but we don’t have a budget for it in school. I would also use it on signs that we make in school for fundraising sales, i.e. hamburger, hot dog, bake sales…..It adds so much to their hand lettered signage through out the hallways! Very cool giveaway.

Hi, Carla
I have just discovered these colourful tapes. I delight in the ones with the little scenes. As far as using them, I would cover my journal notebooks with their currently boring one solid colour covers. I think I would also like to cover my tools, etc. like the stapler and the label maker. After that I think I would experiment with some designs or even pictures using the tapes as the drawing implements and “mark makers.”

I love to collect these washi tapes, I buy them everywhere I go when I travel, so each roll has it’s own little story to tell. I would be absolutely delighted to have just one roll from Carla for my collection!

WOW!!! I would LOVE to get my hands on this tape!! For starters, I’ve always been intending to buy some Washi tape and start playing (a la the recent packing tape lesson) but never got around to it. THEN I did the packing tape and had so much fun with it that I never want to quit! I plan on making some cards with it–I never seem to have any stationery around, but I DO have blank artists cards and envelops I was always intending to put photos on. Ooooo–how about photo “lifts” AND tape on cards? With other stuff? Oh, pleeezzz pleeezzzz.

Hey there Carla! Sounds like a fun party to be able to attend in person. What a great success story you are too, and you know I have been a fan for years now myself! Your art is so witty and a great example of not only understanding your mediums but also adding that intuitive touch and magnificent sense of humor you seem to always have as well as a uniquely all your own style.
I love all these tapes that have come out, that stack with the honey bees looks like a ton of sweet fun! If you chose me as a winner, I would share with my eleven year old son who just jams at using tape to create his art. Last weekend he and a few of his friends got into the cardboard we had stored in our garage and made some swords and shields with duct tape. I often take him along with me when I art supply shop and allow him a certain amount of purchases depending on what holiday , birthday etc is coming around. He often chooses tapes.
We would use these tapes to make art, cardboard creations wrap birthday gifts and in any mixed media we could come up with. Would be awesome summer fun! Thanks for sharing with some lucky 6!
Hugs, Sanna
