The above drawing is by my oldest grandson, Liam (6). I think the colors are fantastic and it is a good example of a symmetrical composition. For the most part, the piece is divided straight down the middle, with both sides of the axis mirroring each other.
(There are slight differences, such as the grey line extending down past the box on the left side. But that is balanced beautifully by the grey “bulb” on the right end of the middle horizontal line. And while the two red orbs are different sizes, the slightly brighter yellow rays coming out of the smaller one balances it out.)
I really love this drawing.
Here is a recent animal of mine:
Have a great day!
Thank you for sharing the beautiful way your Liam’s art is so perfect! I see it and love it, but adore how your trained brain explains it!
Love it, and your methodical dissection. Perfectly imperfect 🙂 Love your garanimal too 😉
Lovely + lovely! Liam’s drawing and your contemplation of it. And your veiled animal, Carla!
Our grandchildren will be artist in their own right because you taught their mothers and grandmothers that it is ok to color outside the lines.
What a joy to see their creations knowing that they create from their hearts and imagination. There is no such words as “wrong, mistakes, etc.)
Thank you so much Carla !

Pondering Liam’s piece a long time, wondering what it is exactly that satisfies me. I want some kind of intelligent response to it, instead, I keep looking. Does it represent a person, a tree, a map of a park, someone’s brain? Who knows, I just like it so very much and yearn for this kind of creativity to show up in me. The monochromatic animal is lovely, I like seeing through it.
Just like Jodi in the first comment above, I love the way you explain Liam’s art!!! It shows respect and genuine admiration. And I must say, even though I don’t know this little guy, I’m impressed too!
