I found a tiny bit of studio time this past week and rendered an earlier sketch in color… this one is gesso, watercolor, pencil, charcoal and ink on wood, 6″x6″. I have promised a gallery in Colorado some work, and I just plain miss painting, so will be working this fall on a series of Animals on Wood and see how it goes!
Silly Class Giveaway!
I received an email last week from a woman named Jackie, who signed up for The Art of Silliness 2, and asked if she could buy another class spot to GIVE AWAY (which is, like, one of the nicest things I’ve ever heard of). Head on over to this post for your chance to win! She will pick the winner Sunday, September 5th.

I hear the word gesso used a lot. I just got your book yesterday, so If it is in your book I have not gotten to that part yet. But if possible can you help me out and explain what that is: a medium or process?

Gesso is a paint that works like “primer.” People often will “prime” wood or canvas with gesso first, before they paint with oils, for example.
I use gesso to build up textures, and add color with watercolor later.

This is such a sweet piece. I look forward to seeing your animal series.
I just went over on Jackie´s blog and hope I win the free spot in your class. Wasn´t that a great idea on her part to use your class as her giveaway.
